Evelyn is 10 days old and time seems to be moving so fast and so slow at the same time. It’s been a whirlwind getting used to life with a newborn, no sleep and a lot of body changes. I wanted to share how we’re doing.
Baby: Evelyn is doing great. She’s such a good baby. As long as she’s fed she really doesn’t cry. We’re so fortunate. She’s already sleeping 3-4 hour spans at night and I often wake up before she does because my boobs hurt and I can tell it’s time to feed her. At her doctor appointment this week she gained 11oz. The doctor was floored. Looks like breastfeeding is going well.
Me: It’s funny because I kept saying how I was looking forward to not being pregnant anymore and getting my body back but your body definitely still isn’t yours after baby. Between healing down there, my stomach & stretch marks, and painful leaky boobs she definitely still owns me. On the other hand, I get to have a little wine which helps.
Dad: The sweetest thing has been seeing Tim turn into a dad. He was so apprehensive about having a baby and since she’s arrived he’s absolutely smitten with her. Her bassinet has to be on his side of the bed, he does almost all the diaper changes, picks out all her outfits, is militant with me about giving her enough skin to skin time and is constantly tracking our feedings.
As I’ve mentioned, my parents and sister have been staying with us and it’s been a game changer. The first few nights home from the hospital I passed Evelyn off to my mom after her 6am feeding and was able to sleep 6-9am. My mom has done all the grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning and laundry. We are so fortunate. I don’t know what we’re going to do when they leave on Friday!
My work sent a huge food delivery today with tons of prepared meals for lunch & dinner and several delicious treats. It was so thoughtful and appreciated! If you have an expectant friend in the LA area I would definitely recommend their food delivery service for new mom’s: Joan’s on 3rd.
Tim went back to work for the first time today. I didn’t wake him at all during the night because his work days are really long hours. I managed well but am definitely tired today.
I have a list of postpartum must haves I hope to post soon. I also want to do a post on our birth story of course! Hope to have that up for you guys soon. Spoiler Alert: Childbirth is no joke!
